Projects
These projects are dear to my heart and mission.
Living/Learning STEM Communities
The idea for these innovative communities was developed during a brainstorm with Dr. Martin and Dr. Lawrence (“Larry”) M. Drake II, who is serving as Interim President of Bethune-Cookman University. Dr. Martin has led the establishment of these communities in his roles at the University of Pittsburgh.
Goal: STEM access and innovation is a national priority, as reflected in the passage of the Chips and Science Act of 2022 and Congress’s authorization to double the National Science Foundation’s overall budget within 5 years and triple NSF’s STEM Education Directorate’s budget within 5 years. NSF refers to the growing crisis of too few STEM participants in our workforce pipeline as the “missing millions.”
Emotional well being of students
Times of extreme change impact emotional well being and we are observing higher distress among students than in more settled times. By prioritizing emotional well being among tomorrow’s leaders, we are working to build a more resilient society.
